For the third year running, Cyprus has earned the title of "Strong Innovator" on the European Innovation Scoreboard 2024. Ranking 10th among EU member states, Cyprus boasts an innovation performance of 106.3% of the European average, showing an impressive 39% growth since 2017—the highest in Europe (CBN) (Ekathimerini).
Top Performer in "Linkages": Cyprus excels in fostering collaborations between businesses and institutions, leading to significant public-private research publications and mobility in science and technology sectors.
High Ranking in "Attractive Research Systems": The country stands out for its international scientific publications and the number of research institutions, underscoring the robustness of its research environment (CBN).
Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy, Dr. Nicodemos Damianou, highlighted the effectiveness of Cyprus's innovation policies. He emphasized the government's dedication to creating opportunities for scientists and entrepreneurs, ensuring that research and development investments benefit society and the economy.
"Our goal is to build on this dynamic and create even more favorable conditions and opportunities for our country's scientists and entrepreneurs to innovate," said Dr. Damianou (Ekathimerini).
With the launch of a new impact assessment mechanism, Cyprus aims to further improve its innovation ecosystem, addressing areas needing enhancement to maintain its upward trajectory.
